Rev. Prof. Jonathan Edward Tetteh Kuwornu-Adjaottor of the Department of Religion and Human Development, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has been admitted as a Full Member of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas (SNTS), the International Society for New Testament Studies.
The recognition marks another milestone in Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor’s scholarship in New Testament studies, biblical interpretation and mother-tongue biblical hermeneutics.
In a letter dated August 31, 2026, the Registrar of KNUST, Benjamin B. Owusu, congratulated him on behalf of University Management, describing his admission as significant international recognition of his academic work.
“I write to extend the warmest congratulations of Management of the University to you on this significant international recognition and achievement. Your admission to this prestigious scholarly society is a testament to your outstanding academic contributions and scholarly accomplishments,” the Registrar said.
The University said the achievement enhanced KNUST’s international standing and reflected the wider institutional value of the scholar’s work.
“This achievement not only brings great honour to you but also enhances the image and international standing of KNUST. The University is proud of your accomplishment and the recognition it brings to the institution,” the letter said.
Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor’s research focuses on New Testament interpretation, mother-tongue biblical hermeneutics and Bible translation hermeneutics. His work has examined how African languages and cultural contexts can contribute to the interpretation and understanding of biblical texts.
His association with the international New Testament scholarly community predates his full membership. In 2019, he presented research on “Mother-tongue Hermeneutics in Ghana” at the 74th annual meeting of SNTS in Marburg, Germany.
He has also been active in the Institute for Biblical Scholarship in Africa (IBSA)-West Africa, where he has served as Secretary-General. The organisation works in areas including New Testament studies, Old Testament studies and Bible translation.
The Registrar expressed the University’s expectation that the membership would create further opportunities for Prof. Kuwornu-Adjaottor to contribute to international scholarship.
“We wish you continued success in your academic and scholarly endeavours and trust that your membership of SNTS will provide further opportunities to contribute to the advancement of New Testament scholarship globally,” the letter said.
